Har! Now Yulian has a "real" last name. I think this direction is pretty fricking cool, him becoming Jero's little brother. Witness the birth of Taman Kholarnn! Fear him. You know, Eric, now that I think about it, I don't really think he'll need to change his wardrobe. Maybe just add a few more trinkets, like some worked silver buckles and buttons and silver threaded filigree on a high collar, perhaps a black cloak lined with sable and and an ermine mantle of fine black fur, and a wide black leather belt with silver scrollwork and a jeweled buckle. Listen to me. I should just say in my best gay voice, "Honey, you just need to learn how to accessorize!" Ah, and forgot to mention to Brett that the name "Taman" is also cool because your nickname can be "Tam," which happens to be a favorite character of his in the FR Sembia novels.

I was doing some more thinking about Yulian, and I really do think this is a cool direction even psychologically. I mean, he grew up as this half-orc who just wanted to be accepted and who later became consumed with thoughts of revenge and turned to necromancy, since it was the only thing he had been exposed to and truly knew.
Now, he's quite changed. The obvious transformation is that he's now human, and the fact that we hint that he resembles Jero may not be completely by accident. Perhaps Halaster drew images forth from Yulian's own mind, and him being close to Jero and thinking of him as a patron and benefactor (perhaps even idolizing him, if I may be bold) may have had a residual effect on the form his transformation took, and that's why he has some obviously similar physical traits to Jero.
The less evident but more telling change is his embracing of shadow magic and somewhat turning away from necromancy. Neither are acceptable in open society, but the secret magics of Shar are much easier to obscure, to keep hidden, and can work in clandestine ways, whereas necromancy is considered darker and certainly more difficult to hide, especially when you travel around with a big honking vulture on a crookstaff. Indeed, the release of Greta is an obvious "shedding of the skin," if you ask me.
With these things in mind, as well as this subtle change in Yulian's personality (you have to admit he's more patient with people, more sociable, and more accepting, yet still maintaining that special aloof quality we love -- which can be passed off as the inherent arrogance of a nobleman), it seems quite natural that at some point he should seek to redefine himself almost completely.
Enter Taman Kholarnn. A convenient recasting of Yulian's former self into a new mold. Now, suddenly, the name fits the man, and I wouldn't be surprised to see this new identity and direction become the norm and the "outcast" persona of Yulian be left more and more in his dark and necromantic past. Like all dead things, perhaps the old Yulian is beginning to fade and a new identity is being born.

I was just thinking the evolution of Yulian "Taman Kholarnn" Assblender has been long and sometimes strange. From half-orc to human to dead to shadow mage to noble. WOW.

Indeed. I really like the metamorphosis.
Yulian can take on the role of Jero's "howitzer" and a type of sagely advisor/vizier type o guy.
The House Mage/Vizier of House Kholarrn.

To all in the Tuesday night crew, I had fun last night. Looking back I think during combat at the mannor I may have overdone it. I was playing to much in character and not allowing players to enjoy combat. Taking away monsters from players and giving them to NPCs is not the right way to play. Sorry to all; I will try not to let that happen again.

I do agree, though I don't put fault on anyone. It may have been better, like we said, to have assumed that Taman didn't see that last raptor come charging in. That would have left something for Fenlan to do. I am sure it was kinda frustrating for Tony considering how Fenlan reacted.
Anyhow, I still had fun, and am looking forward to even greater challenges in the next session.

Yeah, like I said last night, the only bad thing about summoning is that it bogs things down.
I guess the best way to treat summoning monsters is to treat them like you would any other weapon or spell. Concentrate them on one adversary, and once they deal with it, dispel them.
But then again, I'm always of the mind that PCs shouldn't always interfere in another's combat. This sometimes breeds ill feelings, like that person's PC is weak or that their "helper" is seeking a greater share of the XPs.
