I am posting this from another thread, since this pertains specifically to Kuhal:
--
Brett and I seem to have worked out some of Kuhal's previous incarnations. For anyone who's interested, Kuhal has been the Baron of Dread, a rather evil fellow named Olostin who existed back around -350 DR and was responsible for the death of over 30,000 people in the days of Netheril.
The next incarnation is Faerlthann Obarskyr, which is interesting as he was the official first king of the nation of Cormyr, crowned in 26 DR.
Then we have a man simply named Velar, who appeared around 340 DR, and I can't recall his deeds or exploits at the moment so I'll leave that to Brett.
Then around the 700s DR, a warrior by the name of Fflar wielded the sword Foebane and rose to command armies that fought in the Weeping War. He fought a two-day battle against against the forces of Aulmpiter the nycaloth in 714, the Year of Doom. His body was never found after this battle.
The year 1022 DR mentions a mighty ranger by the name of Ulzund Hawkshield, who helped re-establish the Harpers along with the bard-now-turned-god, Finder. Kuhal was this ranger. Little else of Hawkshield is known, however.
He then rose as Khallos Shieldsunder and around 1235 DR, was commander of the militia in Silverymoon. When the city was besieged by orcs called the Black Horde, Warlord Shieldsunder wrested control of the city from the Silvermayor. The city's walls were breached, but the siege was eventually repelled. Warlord Shieldsunder's fate is unknown (actually, we do know it, but that's too cool to leak here).

Also, looking at the dates, if Brett's NPC Dorn actually knew Ulzund Hawkshield, he is one old bastard. That was over 300 years ago. I'm not implying it's not possible. I'm just saying, he's old, which adds another level of mystery to the ranger.

Check it out, the new FR book "Lost Empires" has a pick of Captain Fflar, one of Kuhal's incarnations, battling Aulmpiter the nycaloth. www.wizards.com/dnd/images/leof_gallery/86713.jpgApparently he was an elf. I just always thought of him as human. Hopefully this book will elaborate on him a bit. He's always been left mysterious for some reason. I can't wait for this book to come out.
